My Los Angeles

I’ve been living off and on in LA since 2002 and love shooting photos of this unique city. I’m posting shoots I’ve done over the years that I like and I hope anyone reading this will like as well. I’ve always loved the square format in photos and I guess it show with this post. I used different techniques to makes these images and I go into a little detail here and there.

City Hall

City Hall
This shot of City Hall is a little different from the original digital image but the basic idea is the same. I tweaked it a bit in Photoshop but I tweak all my digital photos. I love this building because its a very icon LA structure in a town that seems to have them spread out over many miles.

Hollywood Forever

Hollywood Forever Cemetery
I shot this photo with an old 120 fold out camera that I can’t remember the name of. The glass was old and messed up which I thought added to the image.  I’ve never had any problems shooting photos there but I would suggest keeping in mind people visiting the cemetery could be mourning so act accordingly. You should really visit Hollywood Forever if you’ve never been, there is a ton of Southern California history there.

Eagle Rock

Eagle Rock
I lived in Eagle Rock for a few years and it’s a great place to shoot and is very low key as far as foot and car traffic. I snapped this photo of the Eagle Rock with one of my Holga cameras. I love the light leaks of these little cameras. The light leak at the top look like clouds which I think add to the image. The wire in the middle of the frame works for me beacuse it remind you that even in nature we can’t escape the effects of the city.

Street Musician
This guys was playing his trumpet on the street as I was walking around doing some street photography. I found a good spot in the gutter between two parked cars so I could get down low to snap this shot. I really like finding this fellow, he was really good unlike most street musician who seem to pollute the air with their noise. After printing this pic from the negative I used charcoal on the print to get this effect.

Basketball Court
On another walking around street day I found some kids playing basketball and snapped this photo of the ball in flight. I used my Holga for this one as well and was please with the results. This is one of those print I’ll never be able to recreate because I’m sure the paper used was expired. I’ve always liked things like that though, art is about (in part) the making something no else can. I just wish I had more time to shoot with this camera.
